<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rotate PDF Files or a Single Page</h2>

<p><em>How do you permanently rotate PDF pages? If you need to change the orientation of one page in a PDF, several pages, or an entire PDF file you can do that easily with this online tool. Our tutorial shows you how to rotate and save PDF documents that way.</em></p>

<p>Rotating pages on a PDF is useful if you have single or multiple pages on a document that need to be displayed in a different orientation. Your PDF may be mostly in portrait, for example, and you need a few pages to be displayed horizontally in landscape. You can rotate one or multiple pages of your choice using the online <a href="https://pdf.live/convert-pdf-into-editable-pdf">PDF.Live editor</a>. This editor functions entirely in your browser — no additional downloads are required.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Rotating PDF Pages with PDF.Live</h3>

<p>First, drag and drop your PDF into the PDF.Live editor to upload it and select <strong>Edit PDF</strong> and <strong>Continue </strong>to start editing.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="620" height="564" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image1-1.png" alt="Image shoes pdf live studio dashboard. Choose action and Edit PDF is selected. " class="wp-image-8135" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image1-1.png 620w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image1-1-300x273.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></figure>

<p>Once your PDF is displayed in the editor, select the <strong>Manage pages</strong> icon on the left side of the PDF.Live editor. This will show the pages of your PDF in thumbnail view, which is a condensed version that’s easier for editing pages. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="494" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-1024x494.png" alt="Image shoes six pages of a pdf in horizontal layout. The prompt reads select pages to organize." class="wp-image-8136" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-1024x494.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-300x145.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-768x371.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-1536x741.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1-1568x757.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image4-1.png 1647w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>From here, you can click on a page within your PDF that you want to rotate. At the top of the page manager, you’ll see a few different buttons for managing your pages. We want the <strong>Rotate</strong> button. With the page you want to rotate selected, click the rotate button. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="61" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image2-1-1024x61.png" alt="Image shoes the rotate button selected on the pdf live studio editor's menu." class="wp-image-8137" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image2-1-1024x61.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image2-1-300x18.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image2-1-768x46.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image2-1.png 1095w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>You’ll see the rotation reflected in the thumbnail view. Once you’re happy with how the page is oriented, select <strong>Confirm</strong> to have your changes applied in the editor view. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="491" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-1024x491.png" alt="Image shows six pages of a pdf in thumbnail views in horizontal orientation except for page 2 which has been rotated to vertical." class="wp-image-8138" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-1024x491.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-300x144.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-768x369.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-1536x737.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2-1568x753.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/image3-2.png 1644w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>You can also quickly rotate a selected page by clicking the two circular arrow icons with a page selected.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After you’ve rotated all the pages you need, you’ll need to <strong>Confirm</strong> your changes with the page manager and then <strong>download </strong>a new version of the PDF from the editor to see your changes reflected. This new version will contain the rotations and any other changes you’ve made.</p>

<p>Other <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/pdf-basics/what-is-a-pdf-reader/">PDF readers</a>, such as Apple’s Preview app, will allow you to rotate pages and make other edits. Readers are separate applications that are downloaded on your computer, however, and won’t allow you to make changes in your web browser.</p>

<p>How do you rotate all pages in a PDF? From the PDF.Live Studio, select Manage pages in the upper left, and from the thumbnail view, select each page and rotate it. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="456" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/how-to-rotate-a-pdf-page.gif" alt="Animated video showing how to rotate select pages or all pages in a PDF using pdf live's studio editor." class="wp-image-8139"/></figure>

<p><em>Do you need to change the order of pages in a PDF file? Whether you have to edit the order of pages, reorder pages or otherwise simply change the order of your PDF, this click-and-drag tool will make it easy for you.</em></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Change the Order of PDF Pages</strong></h2>

<p>The size of a PDF can range from just a couple of pages to an entire e-book with hundreds of pages. When creating a PDF, it’s easy to accidentally place pages out of order or need to rearrange them. The problem is, once the PDF is created, it’s difficult to edit page order when you’re using a PDF reader. To rearrange pages, you’ll need an editing tool.</p>

<p>PDF.Live provides an <a href="https://pdf.live/convert-pdf-into-editable-pdf">online editor</a> to change and reorder PDF pages. With the editor, it’s as easy as dragging and dropping the pages in the order of your choice. In this guide, we’ll show you how to rearrange PDF pages however you’d like.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Steps for Reordering Pages in a PDF File</strong></h2>

<p>To get started changing page order, you’ll need to <a href="https://pdf.live/convert-pdf-into-editable-pdf">convert your PDF into an editable PDF</a>. Simply drag and drop the PDF into the editor and select <strong>Edit PDF. </strong>This will convert the PDF to an editable PDF and open the PDF.Live online editor, which functions entirely in your browser.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="568" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2026-02-17-at-5.04.47-PM-1024x568.png" alt="Upload a PDF to convert it to an editable PDF. " class="wp-image-7833" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2026-02-17-at-5.04.47-PM-1024x568.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2026-02-17-at-5.04.47-PM-300x166.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2026-02-17-at-5.04.47-PM-768x426.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2026-02-17-at-5.04.47-PM.png 1443w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The PDF live editor has a lot of powerful editing options for PDFs. But today we’ll be focusing on the <strong>Manage Pages </strong>option located on the left side of the PDF.Live editor. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1406" height="536" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-3.png" alt="The manage pages feature is highlighted using a red box. " class="wp-image-8058" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-3.png 1406w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-3-300x114.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-3-1024x390.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-3-768x293.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1406px) 100vw, 1406px" /></figure>

<p>This will open the <strong>Thumbnail page view</strong>. This allows you to quickly overview and scroll through the different pages of your PDF. You’ll see smaller thumbnail versions of your PDF pages to get a sense of the content contained on each page. There are also several different tools available for organizing, removing, or inserting new pages. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1649" height="797" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3.png" alt="Six pages of an example pdf are shown in the pdf live workspace. The sixth page is selected." class="wp-image-8059" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3.png 1649w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3-300x145.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3-1024x495.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3-768x371.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3-1536x742.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-3-1568x758.png 1568w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1649px) 100vw, 1649px" /></figure>

<p>This thumbnail view also allows you to rearrange the order of a PDF’s pages. Simply click and drag the page to wherever you’d like it to be. You will have to release your mouse click when a blue vertical line appears, indicating which page you’re going to put the page you’ve select din front of. Once you’ve dragged the page to the new location, you’ll see the new order reflected in the thumbnail viewer.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1651" height="802" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3.png" alt="The pdf live workspace shows that page six is now in the fourth position." class="wp-image-8060" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3.png 1651w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3-300x146.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3-1024x497.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3-768x373.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3-1536x746.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-3-1568x762.png 1568w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1651px) 100vw, 1651px" /></figure>

<p>In the above example, we’ve rearranged the order of this 6 page brochure by clicking and dragging the pages around. Once you’ve got an order you’re happy with, select <strong>Confirm. </strong>The pages will be rearranged.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Once you have all the pages where you’d like them to be, you’ll need to download the PDF again. The downloaded version of the PDF will contain all the edits that you’ve made.</p>

<p>If you have a lot of pages in your PDF, you may need to scroll up or down on the page organization tool to see all of the pages in your document.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1646" height="795" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3.png" alt="A dialog box is on top of the pdf live workspace showing the command to select a pdf to edit. " class="wp-image-8061" style="aspect-ratio:2.0705020601251336;width:717px;height:auto" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3.png 1646w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3-300x145.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3-1024x495.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3-768x371.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3-1536x742.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-3-1568x757.png 1568w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1646px) 100vw, 1646px" /></figure>

<p>To combine more than one PDF, use the <a href="https://pdf.live/pdf-management/merge-pdf"><strong>Merge</strong> function</a> that combines two or more different PDFs. To learn more about doing this, we recommend checking out the <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/pdf-basics/extracting-page-split-pdf/"><strong>Extract-Split-Separate a Page from a PDF</strong></a> article that details how to extract specific pages from a different PDF and then place them in a new PDF.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Flip One or All Pages in a PDF</strong></h2>

<p><em>In this tutorial, we’ll answer questions about flipping one page or all pages in a PDF document, including how to flip pages in a PDF and how to flip entire PDF files.</em></p>

<p>To flip a page in a PDF means changing how the page is oriented so that one or more of the pages are aligned in a different direction. For example, you may want to flip a specific page upside down or horizontal so the content is displayed differently from the rest. Or, maybe when you scanned the physical version of a document, a couple pages weren’t aligned correctly.</p>

<p>No matter your reason, PDF.Live’s editor allows you to flip PDF pages clockwise and counterclockwise so all the content is displayed correctly. In this guide, we’ll be showing you how you can use the PDF.Live editor to flip, <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/pdf-basics/rotate-pdfs/">or rotate</a>, your PDF without any software downloads.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Upload your PDF to the PDF.Live editor by clicking <strong>Select a file</strong> or dragging and dropping your PDF into the PDF.Live editor. Click <strong>Edit PDF</strong> and <strong>Continue</strong>. </li>
</ol>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="616" height="561" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image1-1.png" alt="To flip a PDF, upload it to pdf live. This shows a pdf named 6 page kayaking brochure has been uploaded." class="wp-image-8039" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image1-1.png 616w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image1-1-300x273.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px" /></figure>

<p>You can also click an existing PDF that you’ve already uploaded to PDF.Live. If you’re flipping the pages of a <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/how-to-convert-pdfs/phone-scan-pdf/">document that you’ve scanned</a>, you will need to save it as a PDF somewhere on your computer.</p>

<ol start="2" class="wp-block-list">
<li>On the left side of the editor, select <strong>Manage Pages</strong>.</li>
</ol>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="369" height="359" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image5-1.png" alt="A pdf called kayaking on fresh water has been uploaded to pdf live and the option to return to the document studio or manage pages is shown." class="wp-image-8041" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image5-1.png 369w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image5-1-300x292.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px" /></figure>

<p>This will open the page organization menu for PDF.Live. It has page management features like moving, inserting, duplicating, and rotating pages.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1645" height="798" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1.png" alt="The workspace on PDF Live shows 6 pages ready to edit and the command to select pages to organize." class="wp-image-8042" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1.png 1645w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1-300x146.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1-1024x497.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1-768x373.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1-1536x745.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image2-1-1568x761.png 1568w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1645px) 100vw, 1645px" /></figure>

<p>You can cancel out of this menu at any time by clicking <strong>Cancel </strong>in the bottom right corner.</p>

<ol start="3" class="wp-block-list">
<li>Click the page you want to rotate from the pages listed and click the <strong>Rotate</strong> button on the top of the menu.</li>

<p>This option will quickly rotate your page 90 degrees in the clockwise direction. This will only rotate the single page that you select. With a page selected, you can also click the circular arrow box to rotate that page. <strong> </strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1658" height="801" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3.png" alt="The second page has been rotated to portrait setting while the other five remain landscape." class="wp-image-8044" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3.png 1658w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3-300x145.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3-1024x495.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3-768x371.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3-1536x742.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image4-3-1568x758.png 1568w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1658px) 100vw, 1658px" /></figure>

<p>Once you’ve flipped your pages in the correct orientation, click <strong>Confirm</strong> in the bottom right corner to apply the rotations you’ve made to your PDF. If you click <strong>Cancel</strong>, your rotations will not be applied.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tips For Getting the Most From PDF.Live’s Edit PDF App</strong></h2>

<p><em>PDF.Live’s </em><a href="https://pdf.live/convert-pdf-into-editable-pdf"><em>editor tool</em></a><em> is a powerful online tool for changing, measuring, and reading PDF files. Our editor can</em> <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/pdf-basics/adding-pages-to-a-pdf/"><em>add and delete pages</em></a><em>, </em><a href="https://pdf.live/resources/working-with-pdfs/fillable-form/"><em>convert PDFs to fillable forms</em></a><em>, </em><a href="https://pdf.live/resources/how-to-annotate-pdfs/proofreading-pdfs/"><em>annotate a PDF</em></a><em>, and more. The editor works entirely in your browser, so there’s no need for a separate download to view and edit your PDFs.</em></p>

<p>The PDF.Live editor does a lot of cool things. In this article, we’ll go over the cool stuff that you can do using the PDF.Live editor, including advanced tools. All of these editing features are included with a <a href="https://pdf.live/welcome">PDF.Live subscription</a>.</p>

</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Advanced PDF Editing Features</strong></h2>

<p>These are a few more advanced things you can do with PDF.Live:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><a href="https://pdf.live/resources/working-with-pdfs/adding-links-to-pdfs/">Add links to a PDF</a></li>

<li><a href="https://pdf.live/resources/how-to-annotate-pdfs/proofreading-pdfs/">Annotate</a> PDFs</li>

<li><a href="https://pdf.live/resources/working-with-pdfs/resize-reduce/">Resize PDFs</a></li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>8 ‘Hidden’ PDF Editing Tools</strong></h2>

<p>The following aren’t really “hidden” features, but they are lesser known features that may surprise and delight you!&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. Search</strong></h3>

<p>The PDF.Live editor can search for text in your PDF similarly to a document editor. This tool is located in the upper-left corner of the PDF viewer in the PDF.Live editor. It’s marked by a magnifying glass icon with the text “<strong>Search</strong>”.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="374" height="363" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image7.png" alt="The PDF.Live editor can search for text in your PDF similarly to a document editor. This tool is located in the upper-left corner of the PDF viewer in the PDF.Live editor. It’s marked by a magnifying glass icon with the text “Search”. " class="wp-image-8019" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image7.png 374w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image7-300x291.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px" /></figure>

<p>Using this tool, you can enter text in the search bar to find all the instances of that text within your document. You can search case sensitive, which will only look for the exact lower or upper case text that you type. This is useful for finding a specific word or phrase that you’re looking for in your document.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="373" height="508" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image5.png" alt="The word 'kayak' is in the search field of pdf live's find feature." class="wp-image-8020" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image5.png 373w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image5-220x300.png 220w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Add Image</strong></h3>

<p>The <strong>Add Image </strong>tab lets you add new images anywhere in your PDF. Click the Add Image button and your cursor will turn into a <strong>+ </strong>sign. You can then click anywhere in your PDF to add an image.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="141" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image10-1024x141.png" alt="The add image icon is selected to insert a photo in the ocean kayaking pdf." class="wp-image-8021" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image10-1024x141.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image10-300x41.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image10-768x106.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image10.png 1415w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Click your PDF and you’ll be prompted to navigate to an image that you’ve saved on your computer. The image will need to be a .PNG or .JPG file.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="382" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image12-1024x382.png" alt="A photo of a woman kayaking on a river in a red kayak is inserted" class="wp-image-8022" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image12-1024x382.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image12-300x112.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image12-768x286.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image12.png 1487w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Once uploaded, your new image will appear in the PDF. Click and drag it to adjust its location and click the blue circles around its perimeter to adjust the size. To delete the image, either click the trash can or the delete key.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Document Conversion</strong></h3>

<p>Want to immediately convert your PDF to a new format like a Word doc, Excel, or PowerPoint? The <strong>Convert</strong> tab allows you to do just that. Simply click <strong>Convert</strong> and then the conversion feature of your choice.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="109" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image6-1024x109.png" alt="The convert button is selected in the top menu and the to powerpoint button is selected in the second. " class="wp-image-8023" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image6-1024x109.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image6-300x32.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image6-768x82.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image6.png 1167w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Once you’re ready, click <strong>Convert to PowerPoint</strong> to have your PDF converted to a PPT.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="788" height="460" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image15.png" alt="An orange dialog box shows that the upload was successful and the button reads convert to powerpoint. " class="wp-image-8024" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image15.png 788w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image15-300x175.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image15-768x448.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px" /></figure>

<p>Download the powerpoint version of your PDF once the conversion is completed.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Compression</strong></h3>

<p>While we’re in the <strong>Convert </strong>tab, check out the <strong>Compress </strong>feature, which will help reduce the file size of your PDF for easier storage on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="116" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image19-1024x116.png" alt="The convert button is selected in the top menu and the compress button is selected below it." class="wp-image-8025" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image19-1024x116.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image19-300x34.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image19-768x87.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image19.png 1161w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Click <strong>Compress</strong> and then adjust the compression level slider in the dialogue box. A higher compression level will have a smaller file size, but may come at the cost of your PDF’s quality. Click <strong>Compress PDF </strong>when you’re ready.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="789" height="460" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image9.png" alt="A teal dialog box shows that the upload was successful and the button says compress pdf." class="wp-image-8026" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image9.png 789w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image9-300x175.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image9-768x448.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 789px) 100vw, 789px" /></figure>

<p>Download your compressed PDF once it’s been compressed. Look at how much we’ve reduced the size of this PDF!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="786" height="458" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image8.png" alt="The dialog box says the compression is complete. The button suggests download file. " class="wp-image-8027" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image8.png 786w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image8-300x175.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image8-768x448.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 786px) 100vw, 786px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5. Add Arrows</strong></h3>

<p>Want to call out or draw attention to a specific area within your PDF? Under the <strong>Shapes </strong>tab, you’ll see the option to add an <strong>Arrow</strong> when you click the dropdown next to <strong>Shape</strong>.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="314" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-1-1024x314.png" alt="From pdf live's menu select shapes, then shape and then arrow to draw an arrow. " class="wp-image-8028" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-1-1024x314.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-1-300x92.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-1-768x235.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image2-1.png 1162w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>If you click and drag on your PDF, you’ll then create an arrow pointing at something in your document. Once you’ve created an arrow, you can click and drag the blue circles on either end of the arrow to adjust where it’s pointing. In the Shapes toolbar, you can adjust the color of your arrow. See the arrow we’ve created in our PDF:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="326" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-1-1024x326.png" alt="A red arrow points to the title that reads ocean kayaking equipment. " class="wp-image-8029" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-1-1024x326.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-1-300x96.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-1-768x245.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image4-1.png 1170w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>6. Change PDF view</strong></h3>

<p>Sometimes a different perspective is useful for editing a PDF, especially if the PDF is formatted horizontally rather than vertically. With the <strong>Change View</strong> feature, you can change the way you display the pages of the PDF you’re currently editing. Find the change view feature on the bottom left of the PDF.Live editor.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="233" height="358" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-1.png" alt="Find the change view feature on the bottom left of the PDF.Live editor. " class="wp-image-8030" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-1.png 233w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image1-1-195x300.png 195w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px" /></figure>

<p>From here, you can change how zoomed the view of the PDF is and whether it’s scaled to fit the page vertically or horizontally.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="537" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-1024x537.png" alt="The word kayak is highlighted in yellow in four places and once in orange. The thumbnail of all the pages in the PDF are to the left." class="wp-image-8031" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-1024x537.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-300x157.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-768x403.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-1536x805.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1-1568x822.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image3-1.png 1614w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="599" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image17-1024x599.png" alt="A closeup of the pdf shows the words kayaking on fresh water vs salt water in the headline." class="wp-image-8032" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image17-1024x599.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image17-300x175.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image17-768x449.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image17.png 1461w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>7. Add signatures to your PDF</strong></h3>

<p>Need to quickly sign a document? The <strong>Sign </strong>tab of the PDF.Live editor can help you add a signature to your PDF with a few different options for how you create your signature.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="239" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image14-1024x239.png" alt="PDF Live's editing menu is selected with the Sign button selected and either new signature or saved signature as options. " class="wp-image-8033" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image14-1024x239.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image14-300x70.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image14-768x179.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image14.png 1482w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Click <strong>New signature</strong> to either draw, type, or upload a picture of your signature.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="491" height="456" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image13.png" alt="The create new signature box is visible showing draw, type and upload as options as well as formatting options. " class="wp-image-8034" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image13.png 491w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image13-300x279.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px" /></figure>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Draw &#8211; </strong>Draw your signature in the grey box to be added to the PDF.</li>

<li><strong>Type</strong> &#8211; Type your name and have a cursive signature version added to your document.&nbsp;</li>

<li><strong>Upload</strong> &#8211; Upload an existing image of a signature that you’ve wrote.&nbsp;</li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Delete, Divide, and Conquer PDF Page Extraction</strong></h2>

<p>Maybe you need to remove a single page from a PDF to edit and then put it back in? Or, you have to take a couple of pages out and divide them into separate PDFs. Or, you just need to remove the page altogether. You are looking for how to separate pages from a PDF file or remove pages from a PDF.</p>

<p>In this article, we’ll be going through how to extract a PDF on Mac and Windows, as well as how to do it using our PDF.Live editor. We’re also going to explain how to delete one page from a PDF, blank pages from a PDF, or multiple pages from a PDF document. We’ll be going through how to delete specific pages from a PDF with our editor tool, as well as how to do it with our free PDF.live editor.</p>

<p>This post will answer how to:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Split a PDF into multiple PDF files</li>

<li>Extract one or more pages from a PDF</li>

<li>How to extract pages from a pdf</li>

<li>Divide large PDFs into smaller PDFs</li>

<li>Save just one page or specific pages from a PDF</li>

<li>Break apart and cut pages from a PDF</li>

<li>Separate a PDF into individual pages or chapters</li>

<li>Export just one page from a PDF</li>

<li>Pull pages from a PDF</li>

<li>Take pages out of a PDF</li>

<li>Delete pages from a PDF</li>

<li>Remove a PDF page</li>

<li>How do I remove pages from a PDF</li>

<li>How do I delete pages from a PDF online</li>

<li>Is there a free PDF cutter online</li>
</ul>

<p>Who knew there were so many ways to ask the same question? Whether you’re seeking to pull one page from a PDF file, extract and remove a page from a PDF, or separate one larger PDF into two or more smaller PDFs, the steps are basically the same.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>First, Save Your PDF</strong></h2>

<p>Regardless of what you need to do, before we start, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve saved the PDF onto your computer. If you’re viewing the PDF online through a web browser, you’ll need to save it to your computer before you can do anything. To do this, you can select <strong>Print</strong> in your browser settings. If you have a Chrome browser, you’ll likely see something similar to this:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="718" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image5.png" alt="An example pdf in the browser with save as pdf selected and the blue save button highlighted." class="wp-image-7724" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image5.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image5-300x210.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image5-768x539.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>On a Mac, the save as PDF might look like this:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="939" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image4.png" alt="The mac save as pdf feature shows in the lower middle the save as pdf option selected." class="wp-image-7725" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image4.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image4-300x275.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image4-768x704.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Rather than choosing your printer as a destination, select <strong>Save as PDF</strong> instead. This will not send the PDF to your printer, but it will download the document to your computer as a PDF. Follow your computer’s prompts to name the PDF and where you’d like to save it. Once you do this, you can edit the PDF as it’s now on your computer.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Extract a PDF Page with PDF.Live</strong></h2>

<p>PDF.Live allows you to extract, separate, and edit pages of a PDF all in one app. You can import your PDF by dragging the file into<a href="https://pdf.live/edit"> PDF.Live’s editor</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="264" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image3-1024x264.png" alt="Manage Pages from a PDF in a black dialog box." class="wp-image-7726" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image3-1024x264.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image3-300x77.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image3-768x198.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image3.png 1406w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>On the left side of the PDF editor, you’ll notice an option to <strong>Manage Pages</strong> from a PDF. This tool will be what we’ll be working with for extracting, splitting, and separating a page from a PDF.</p>

<p>If you want to extract a page to permanently remove it from the PDF, follow those prompts.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Extract PDF pages for other uses</strong></h3>

<p>To extract a page from a PDF and save it in its own file, click <strong>Manage Pages</strong> on the left side of the screen. You’ll then be able to adjust all the pages of a PDF in one place.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="497" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-1024x497.png" alt="To extract a page from a PDF and save it in its own file, click Manage Pages on the left side of the screen. You’ll then be able to adjust all the pages of a PDF in one place." class="wp-image-7728" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-1024x497.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-300x145.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-768x372.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-1536x745.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6-1568x760.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image6.png 1658w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Click <strong>Extract Page</strong> and then <strong>click the page</strong> that you want to download as a single PDF. Click the <strong>Extract</strong> button to download the selected page as its own PDF. This will work if you need to extract one or multiple pages from a PDF. They do not need to be consecutive and can be multiple pages. To deselect a page, simply click it again.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="497" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-1024x497.png" alt="Click the Extract button to download the selected page as its own PDF." class="wp-image-7727" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-1024x497.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-300x146.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-768x373.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-1536x746.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2-1568x761.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image2.png 1679w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Delete a Page</strong></h3>

<p>For deleting a page, once again click the <strong>Manage Pages</strong> button and then click a page in the list of pages. You will click the <strong>Delete Page </strong>button, which will remove that page from your PDF.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="497" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-1024x497.png" alt="You will click the Delete Page button, which will remove that page from your PDF. " class="wp-image-7729" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-1024x497.png 1024w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-300x146.png 300w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-768x373.png 768w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-1536x746.png 1536w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8-1568x761.png 1568w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image8.png 1652w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>This will not be saved until you select <strong>CONFIRM</strong> on the bottom right corner of the manage page menu. If you accidentally delete the wrong page, click <strong>Cancel</strong> and that page will not be deleted.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Separate PDFs on Mac</strong></h2>

<p>Apple devices come with the Preview App, which allows you to open and edit PDFs on your computer. With preview, you can add, delete, move and copy pages within Preview.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Delete PDF pages on a Mac
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>To delete a page, open Preview and go to <strong>View > Thumbnails</strong> to select the page or pages to delete and use the delete key on your keyboard. You can also go to <strong>Edit > Delete</strong>. Be careful! There’s no warning button to confirm that you want to delete the page; once you hit the delete key, the page is gone. You can, however, use the <strong>Undo</strong> command or the <strong>Revert Changes</strong> option to restore pages that you didn’t intend to delete. </li>
</ul>
</li>

<li>Extract one page from a PDF on a Mac
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The easiest way to extract a single page from a PDF is to open Preview and, from the thumbnail view, click and drag the page to your desktop.</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li>Move pages
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>To move pages, go to <strong>View > Thumbnails</strong> or <strong>View > Contact Sheet</strong>, and then drag the pages to where you’d like them to go in the PDF</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li>Copy pages from one PDF to another
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Similarly to moving pages, go to <strong>View > Thumbnails</strong> or <strong>View > Contact Sheet</strong> and drag the thumbnail images from one PDF to the other.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Separate PDFs on Windows</strong></h2>

<p>Most Windows devices do not have a PDF editor included. However, when you’re using the above steps to obtain your PDF from a browser, you may have noticed that you can print specific pages of a PDF separately. If you see the destination called “Microsoft Print to PDF,” you can extract specific pages from a PDF.</p>

<p>There are other ways to remove pages from PDFs without external software. For example, using your browser of choice, you can open and view a PDF and select <strong>Print</strong>. Then, select <strong>Save as PDF</strong> and select the pages you want to keep. Then, click <strong>Save</strong>. If the page you want to delete is in the middle of the PDF, you may need to download <a href="https://pdf.live/pdf-management/merge-pdf">two separate PDFs and then merge them</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>You can also use PDF.Live, which requires no software to be downloaded and installed on your computer.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Extract Pages from a PDF
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>To extract pages from a PDF using Microsoft Print to PDF, first open the PDF you want to extract in a browser. You can drag the PDF to your browser to do this, or select <strong>Open With</strong> > “your browser of choice.”</li>

<li>Then, select the pages you want to extract. You can write “3” if you want to extract page 3, “3-5” if you want to extract pages 3 through 5, or “3,5” if you just want to extract pages 3 and 5.</li>

<li>Then, select print and those pages will save on your computer.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Extracting and Deleting PDF Pages FAQs</strong></h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why can’t I delete pages from a PDF?</strong></h3>

<p>The most common reason that you’ll be unable to remove pages or otherwise edit a PDF is if its permissions are set to read-only. Read-only means that the original creator has designated that only they can edit or change the document — everyone else can only read it.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="374" height="303" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image7.png" alt="Read-only means that the original creator has designated that only they can edit or change the document — everyone else can only read it." class="wp-image-7730" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image7.png 374w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image7-300x243.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px" /></figure>

<p>If you’re the original owner of the PDF, you will need to edit the permissions of the PDF so that you can now edit it. To do this, find the PDF in your computer’s file explorer and right click it and select <strong>Properties</strong>. Then, navigate to the <strong>Security</strong> tab. If you’re the original owner of the document, you can change permissions by selecting <strong>Edit</strong>. You will see a multitude of options that you can allow or deny other users to access. If <strong>Write</strong> is set to <strong>Deny</strong>, select <strong>Allow</strong> and then press <strong>Apply</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="368" height="513" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image1.jpg" alt="The security tab of a PC showing the list of permissions for SYSTEM." class="wp-image-7731" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image1.jpg 368w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image1-215x300.jpg 215w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why does my PDF have a password?</strong></h3>

<p>If you aren’t the original owner of the PDF, you may need a password to access it and its permissions. You might be able to work around the password protection by selecting the <strong>Print</strong> option and then <strong>Save as PDF</strong> and save only the pages that you want. To learn more about securing a PDF and what permissions do, check out our article on <a href="https://pdf.live/resources/working-with-pdfs/lock-unlock-protect-unprotect/">locking, unlocking, protecting, and un-protecting PDF files</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="367" height="230" src="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image9.png" alt="All of the allow boxes are checked." class="wp-image-7732" srcset="https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image9.png 367w, https://pdf.live/resources/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image9-300x188.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 367px) 100vw, 367px" /></figure>

<p>You should know that sometimes, PDFs are locked due to copyright constraints — so you won’t be able to access them no matter what. This is usually with PDFs of e-books or other published documents.</p>
